Seasons Change
It feels like Wooden Rings is in a chrysalis along with a couple tombones, an oboe, a drum kit and waves of distortion. I’m really excited to share this vision with the world #wrheliocentric
Jonny Drake, Wooden Rings | Webster’s Wine Bar
WEBSTER’S | Monday, Sept 8th 2014 FREE | 8:00PM | All Ages
I am wonderfully excited to share some great new songs and a night with this interesting fellow. I will be performing a ton of new solo work, so come have some wine and olives! JONNY DRAKE (Jon Drake & The Shakes) Jonny’s unique banjo and acoustic focused neo-folk sound recalls that of Roy Orbison, Neil Young, Grandaddy, Kurt Vile, and at times The National. Simple and dark, analog and tape driven, the new material is hypnotic and addictive. Drake will be joined by Ann Marie Meyers and Christine Chung Kenny on vocals as well as Daniel Villarreal (Jaime Rojo, Brother George, Amy Saraiya & The Outcome) on cajon. “[Drake’s] fist single, “Lies For No One”, shows off the strengths of simplicity in its ability to get into your head and stay there.” -Midwest Action https://jonnydrake.bandcamp.com/Last Three Shirts

Nice Things To Say
The Examiner had some nice this to say about our music recently:
October 2, 2013
Wooden Rings is so much more than the typical chamber pop ensemble, and their unique approach to arranging has quickly attracted the local media. ‘Finding Me’ left us breathlessly searching for answers. That and other introspective tracks from 2012’s self-titled debut inspired interviews on WXRT’s Local Anesthetic, WTTW’s Chicago Tonight and WBEZ’s Morning Shift with Tony Sarabia.
Part of the allure is the lyrics — “Well worn, engraved, familiar but strange, the rings we wore everyday…” it’s that ability they have to take the everyday object and turn it into something tangible and communicative, that is memorable. It’s the translucent beauty of acoustic strings that introduce so many of their soulful ballads as well as the collection of instruments that blend and deepen the theme: xylophone to reed, nylon string to electric bass. We’re whipped through a myriad of emotions when vocalist /songwriter Ramah D. Jihan Malebranche sings the chilling refrain in ‘When I Knew.’
With four tracks on their current EP, which was recorded at Electrical Audio here in Chicago and will be released this month at Old Town School of Folk Music, Wooden Rings is eager to share more of their bounty.

“Twisted & Tangled” EP Release Party at Old Town School
Friends, this is going to be a wonderful show!!!
“Wooden Rings, an eclectic and ambitious ensemble from Chicago, have managed to encapsulate a sound so uniquely diverse, it quickly finds roots in the hearts of any honest music fan. Although their sound is self-described as “acoustic chamber pop,” the amount of honesty and emotion expelled through their music creates such a direct connection to the listener that it’s as if their songs were being written just for you.”-Old Town School of Folk Music

Chicago’s Wooden Rings are gearing up for a new release this summer. The band’s 2012 self-titled debut received some lofty praise, locally. The four-piece is sometimes described as a chamber quartet, though a more rustic, sometimes folky sound seems to shine through more often than anything else. That rusticism, married with confessional lyrics, makes for melancholy songs drenched in the eternal longing for one’s better days. The band features Ramah Jihan (nylon-string guitar, lead vocals, songwriter), Justin Rodig (supporting vocal, clarinet, banjo, bells), Brett Bakshis (electric bass) and Marissa Deitz (cello). Wooden Rings stop The Morning Shift by for a preview of their forthcoming record, Twisted & Tangled, and chat a little bit about their music. The rustic confessional of Wooden Rings by WBEZ’s Morning Shift is licensed under a Creative Commons License.Wooden Rings just played The Morning Shift today and Tony Sarabia was so easy to talk to. Thanks to Tony and to all the crew for listening. It’s such an amazing complex at Navy Pier. Take a listen: https://soundcloud.com/morningshiftwbez/wooden-rings-plays-songs-from
